ਨਮੋ ਜੁਧ ਜੁਧੇ – Namo Judh Judhe

 

ਜੂਨ 1984 ਦੀ ‘ਜੰਗ ਹਿੰਦ ਪੰਜਾਬ’ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਤੋੜਵਾਂ ਜੰਗੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਜਦੋਂ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦਾ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਪਸਤ  ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀਲੇ ਨਕਾਰੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਤਾਂ 5 ਜੂਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਫੌਜ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਟੈਂਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੂੰਹ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਵੱਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਕ ਟੈਂਕ ਲੰਗਰ ਹਾਲ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸਿਓਂ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪਰਕਰਮਾ ਵਲ ਤੋੜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਇਸ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੋਰਚਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਟੈਂਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਕਾਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਟੈਂਕ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧਦਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਪਰਕਰਮਾ ਚ ਬੈਠੇ ਇਕ ਨਿਹੰਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਇਹ ਬਰਦਾਸ਼ਤ ਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ‘ਚਿੜੀਓਂ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਬਾਜ਼ ਤੁੜਾਊਂ’ ਵਾਲੀ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਨੇਜਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਟੈਂਕ ਉੱਪਰ ਹੱਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਹਮਲੇ ਚ ਟੈਂਕ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਚ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ ਪਰ ਉਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਹਮਲਾ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਇਸ ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਜਾਹੋ ਜਲਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਕਰ ਗਈ

 

Namo Judh Judhe ([Respect OR I bow to] the [Battlefield of battlefields OR conqueror of battlefields] (the Divine))

The warriors of the Khalsa gave a ferocious response to the Indian army in the Battle of Amritsar—another iteration of the timeless “Jang Hind Punjab” (Indo-Punjab war). When every attempt to break the spirit of Sikh warriors failed, the army sent in tanks on the night of June 5 with their sights set on Sri Akaal Takhat. One tank rolled into the parkarma (walkway) from the Langar Hall entrance as the warriors on that side did not have the weaponry to stop its advance.

One Nihang Singh (warrior) in the parkarma could not tolerate this and manifested Guru Sahib’s vow to “make sparrows fight hawks.” Armed with nothing but a spear, he launched his attack against the Indian army’s famed Vijayanta tank. Although he was not able to stop its advance, the jaho jalal (splendour) of the battlefield rose to new heights as a result of his tenacity and shahadat.
